Johann Merrich is a freelance researcher who investigates the history of electronic music
focussing on the role of its pioneering women.
In 2019, she published for Arcana Edizioni the book Breve Storia della musica elettronica e
delle sue protagoniste (A brief history of electronic music and its women protagonists), second
publication after the previous Le pioniere della musica elettronica (Pioneering Women in
Electronic Music) (Auditorium Edizioni, Milan, 2012). Since May 2019, her monthly column
"Brevi Storie" appear on musicaelettronica.it website.
From 2009 to 2018 she has been the artistic director of electronicgirls, netlabel&musical
collective; between 2012 and 2017 she curated artistic residences, concerts and festivals
dedicated to electronic music for the Venetian cultural association Live Arts Cultures.
She has been invited as guest musician at international festivals such as Santarcangelo Festival
(2018) and the Venice Art Biennale (French Pavilion, 2017). She's now part of L'Impero della
Luce, a duo dedicated to the sounds of electromagnetic fields.
