Giorgio Poi

Giorgio Poi

Born in Novara, he spent part of his childhood in Lucca and grew up in Rome. At 20 he moved to London, where he graduated in Jazz Guitar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During this time, he also formed “Vadoinmessico”, with whom he released the acclaimed album “Archaeology Of The Future” that launched them on a tour around Europe and even as far as the US. The act then evolved into “Cairobi”. Since 2013 he has split his time between London and Berlin which has allowed him to view Italy from afar and, inspired by the perspective this distance gave him, he started writing tracks in Italian. The result was a record made up of personal, melancholy, psychedelic love songs, released on Bomba Dischi/Universal in February 2017. “Fa Niente” was met with glowing reviews in the specialist industry press, as well as receiving plenty of column inches in numerous mainstream publications, lauding Poi’s compositional flair.

2018 kicked off with an appearance at Eurosonic, followed by a mini European tour. Phoenix fell in love with his music and invited him to open for them at their concerts in Milan (March 2018), Paris (May 2018), New York (July 2018) and Los Angeles (September 2018). Early 2018 also saw Giorgio Poi working on the production of Francesco De Leo’s debut album (Bomba Dischi), as well as fruitful collaborations with Frah Quintale on the track “Missili”, produced by Takagi and Ketra (Undamento, Bomba Dischi, Pltnm Squad), and Carl Brave on the track “Camel Blu”, which appeared on the album “Notti Brave”. He also penned the track “Prima di partire” with Luca Carboni, which features on the Bolognese singer-songwriter’s latest album, “Sputnik”.
